Known to locals as “PJ’s,” this unassuming restaurant/saloon has excellent breakfast omelets and huevos rancheros. It also serves burgers and sandwiches for lunch, ribs and fajitas for dinner, and it has a full bar. 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mon. through Thurs., 7 a.m. to midnight Fri., 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sat., and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun. If you thought Nothing To It was a place to learn how to cook, you were right. In addition to Jennifer Bushman’s culinary center, the gourmet deli offers an enticing lunch menu. Choose from delectable salads such as mango chutney chicken or Pacific Rim pasta. Record Street Café has defied its tucked-away location to become a popular coffee and deli spot for students, bohemians, and businesspeople alike. THE CHEESE BOARD

Long a favorite of residents in the Mayberry and Caughlin Ranch areas, this unassuming coffeehouse has become a favorite haunt for music fans on Fridays and Saturdays and every second and fourth Thursday of the month, when free music starts at 7 p.m. The food and drink is fine as well, with highlights such as the Quiche Lorraine, the breakfast burrito with sausage, the egg salad sandwich, and the Veggie Delight hot wrap. 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mon. through Thurs., 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fri., 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sat., and 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sun.

DEUX GROS NEZ

This hipster hangout has a mainly vegetarian menu, but it does carry one meat. “We always have one stick of salami,” says ever-colorful owner Tim Healion. Dishes include brown rice and bean platters, salads, and sandwiches. A wide-array of coffees and pastries, and the juice bar features Dynaflows, made of frozen fruit and juice. 6 a.m. tomidnight Mon. through Sat. and 7 a.m. to midnight Sun.

EJ’S JAZZ CAFÉ

The refurbishment of the old Riverside Hotel led to some great things. One of those is EJ’s Jazz Café, serving up an alluring mix of jazz music and Cajun cuisine. Enjoy Southern-style cooking from bayou breakfast scrambles with andouille sausage to crab melts to bacon bundles, filled with oysters and shrimp. Be sure to leave room for a scrumptious dessert such as pecan sweet potato pie or house-made peach cobbler. This restaurant, near Del Monte Lane, has some truly delicious dishes. The family who owns the establishment puts care into the creation of its tamales, enchiladas, chimichangas, and much more. Entrées come with either red or green sauce, and both are tasty and perfectly spiced. Featuring refined decor and a comfortable atmosphere, the menu selection pleases the happy-hour crowd and those looking for a world-class meal. It’s linked to a large, upstairs bar with jazz and pop singers, and pianists. 5 to 10 p.m. Sun. through Fri., and 5 to 10:30 p.m. Fri. and Sat.

Gourmet specialties abound at this Silver Legacy restaurant, including steak, veal, seafood, and chicken dishes, as well as salads and appetizers. It’s well known for its Sunday brunch. 5 to 10 p.m. Sun. through Thurs., 5 to 11 p.m. Fri. and Sat., and Sunday brunch 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
